CENTER FOR LIFLONG LEARNING ANNUAL MEETING

FEATURES PRESENTATION BY DR. WARREN FERRIS

The Center for Lifelong Learning will hold its annual meeting in the Clubhouse 1, Baltimore Room May 7th at 1:00 PM. After the business meeting and refreshments, at 2:00 PM attendees will hear from Dr. Warren, Ferris Med Star rheumatologist on the subject “How to maintain an active pain free life with arthritis.”  There is no fee to attend the meeting and program, but residents should register with E&R to facilitate the set-up of the room.

The business meeting will provide for a report from the President on the accomplishments during the current year, the election of the officers and Board members or the coming year. There will be reports from the Curriculum Committee and Events Committee on the courses and programs that were held this year and those planned for the coming year. After the business is conducted there will be a break for socializing and refreshments.

At 2:00 PM, Dr. Ferris will commence his presentation dealing with a range of topics affecting seniors. Included in this talk will be such subjects as role of exercise, Osteoarthritis which may affect arms (hands, shoulders) legs (hips, knees, ankles) and spine (neck and lumbar) (spinal stenosis, pinched nerves from disc disease, hand conditions: carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers, Muscle tendon strain:, bicipital tendonitis, golfer's elbow, tennis elbow., Bursitis: hips shoulders, Evaluation for autoimmune disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis and
Psoriatic Arthritis.

Dr Ferris’s philosophy of care “involves partnering with you in your care and working to keep you healthy. In the event a treatment plan is needed, I will create a personalized plan that meets your needs.”

Dr. Ferris grew up on Long Island NY (Rockville Centre). His education included a BA in History from Harvard, an MBA from Stanford, and his MD from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He did his residency at the Cornell Medical Center in New York and Med Star Georgetown University Hospital. He did his Rheumatology fellowship at the University of Virginia.

He volunteered and served in US Peace Corps in Kenya at 7500 feet elevation, in a farming area, looking toward Mt. Kenya. As part of his education in the medical field, he spent time at NIH, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and the US Public Health Service.  

His wife is Dr Renee Moneyhun  Ear Nose and Throat specialist. She is associated with Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. They have two sons - Matthew and Luke Ferris.


Dr. Ferris commenced his relationship with the Med Star Leisure World Medical Center in 1985. In addition to his work as a physician, Dr. Ferris has served as moderator and speaker for health panels at Leisure World. Among his talks was an outstanding program for the Ruach Hadassah chapter.
