How to Read the Bible, by Adele Berlin

Reading the Bible involves different Bibles and different ways to read it. Adele Berlin, an authority on the Bible, will discuss what the Bible is for Jews, Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and Protestants in a presentation sponsored by the Center for Lifelong Learning on Monday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. on the Clubhouse II Auditorium.

Berlin will explain how the interpretation of certain passages differs for people of different faiths and how the approach differs for religious reading and scholarly reading. She will compare some modern English Bible translations to see what choices they make, especially when the original Hebrew is problematic.

Residents are asked to register for this CLL program beginning Tuesday, Oct. 21, by calling or visiting the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse. A $5 fee will be collected at the door and can be paid by cash or check payable to the Center for Lifelong Learning.
